The primary purpose of Mallard Lake Dam is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by City Of Aiken (local government). It impounds the Tr-cedar Creek.

The dam stands 19 feet tall, creates a reservoir covering 11 acres, and has a maximum storage capacity of 101 acre-feet. Completed in 1984, the structure is 42 years old.
