About Summit Dam 1

The primary purpose of Summit Dam 1 is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by Summit Community Association (private). It impounds the Tr-rice Creek.

The dam stands 22 feet tall, creates a reservoir covering 6 acres, and has a maximum storage capacity of 120 acre-feet. Completed in 1994, the structure is 32 years old.
