The primary purpose of Wade is irrigation. The dam stores and diverts water for agricultural irrigation, supporting farming operations in the surrounding area. The dam is owned by C2 Cattle Company (private). It impounds the Maple Creek near Brownsboro.

The dam stands 85 feet tall and stretches 2,070 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 21 acres, and has a maximum storage capacity of 1,100 acre-feet. Completed in 1963, the structure is well into its service life at over 50 years old.
