The primary purpose of North Oak Creek 6-g is flood risk reduction. The dam is owned by Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (local government). It impounds the Tr-north Oak Creek near Valparaiso.

The dam stands 40 feet tall and stretches 850 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 19 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 506 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 1 square miles. Completed in 1979, the structure is 47 years old.
