The primary purpose of Randleman Dam is recreation. The dam creates a reservoir used for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. The dam is owned by Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority (private). It impounds the Deep River near Randleman.

The dam stands 102 feet tall and stretches 2,895 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 3,070 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 121,200 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 169 square miles. Completed in 2002, the structure is relatively new.
