About Farmer Lake Dam

The primary purpose of Farmer Lake Dam is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by Caswell County (local government). It impounds the Country Line Creek near Milton.

The dam stands 77 feet tall and stretches 1,340 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 390 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 15,268 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 46 square miles. Completed in 1983, the structure is 43 years old.
