About Frd No 1

The primary purpose of Frd No 1 is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by Cross Creek Wjd No 42 (local government). It impounds the Salt Creek near Rossville.

The dam stands 29 feet tall and stretches 1,330 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 52 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 1,838 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 3 square miles. Completed in 1979, the structure is 47 years old.
