The primary purpose of Frd No 43 is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by Salt Creek Wjd No 46 (local government). It impounds the East Elkhorn Creek-tr near Ada.

The dam stands 50 feet tall and stretches 1,516 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 26 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 1,309 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 4 square miles. Completed in 1977, the structure is 49 years old.
