The primary purpose of Dogtown is fish and wildlife pond. The dam creates habitat for fish and wildlife, supporting local ecosystems and potentially serving conservation goals. The dam is owned by City Of Williams (local government). It impounds the Dogtown Wash near Havasupai Indian Reservation & I-40.

The dam stands 43 feet tall and stretches 600 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 81 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 1,390 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 5 square miles. Completed in 1934, the structure is well-established, with more than 75 years of service.
