About Long Lake

The primary purpose of Long Lake is hydroelectric. The dam generates hydroelectric power by channeling water through turbines, converting the energy of flowing water into electricity. The dam is owned by Avista Corporation (private). It impounds the Spokane River near Long Lake Op Village.

The dam stands 225 feet tall and stretches 593 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 5,060 acres, has a storage capacity of 105,080 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 5,844 square miles. Completed in 1915, the structure is over a century old.
