The primary purpose of Twin Pots is irrigation. The dam stores and diverts water for agricultural irrigation, supporting farming operations in the surrounding area. The dam is owned by Moon Lake Water Users (private). It impounds the West Fk Lake Creek-offstream near Altonah.

The dam stands 38 feet tall and stretches 515 feet across, has a maximum storage capacity of 4,600 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 1 square miles. Completed in 1931, the structure is well-established, with more than 75 years of service.
