The primary purpose of Lake Weatherford Dam is irrigation. The dam stores and diverts water for agricultural irrigation, supporting farming operations in the surrounding area. The dam is owned by City Of Weatherford (local government). It impounds the Clear Fork Trinity River.

The dam stands 75 feet tall and stretches 3,050 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 1,090 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 37,520 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 109 square miles. Completed in 1957, the structure is well into its service life at over 50 years old.
