The primary purpose of Lake Lenape Dam is recreation. The dam creates a reservoir used for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. The dam is owned by Lake Lenape Association Board Of Trustees (private). It impounds the Tar Hill Brook near Andover.

The dam stands 27 feet tall and stretches 440 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 45 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 1,096 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 5 square miles. Completed in 1931, the structure is well-established, with more than 75 years of service.
