The primary purpose of Yadkin Falls is hydroelectric. The dam generates hydroelectric power by channeling water through turbines, converting the energy of flowing water into electricity. The dam is owned by Cube Yadkin Generation Llc (private). It impounds the Yadkin near River Haven.

The dam stands 120 feet tall and stretches 748 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 204 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 2,875 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 4,190 square miles. Completed in 1919, the structure is over a century old.
