About Lake Lure Dam

The primary purpose of Lake Lure Dam is hydroelectric. The dam generates hydroelectric power by channeling water through turbines, converting the energy of flowing water into electricity. The dam is owned by Town Of Lake Lure (local government). It impounds the Rocky Broad River near Uree.

The dam stands 124 feet tall and stretches 480 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 740 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 44,914 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 95 square miles. Completed in 1927, the structure is well-established, with more than 75 years of service.
