About Frd No 1

The primary purpose of Frd No 1 is flood risk reduction. The dam is designed to control downstream flooding by temporarily storing excess water during storms and releasing it at a controlled rate. The dam is owned by Wet Walnut Creek Wjd No 58 (local government). It impounds the Dry Walnut Creek.

The dam stands 45 feet tall and stretches 2,800 feet across, creates a reservoir covering 38 acres, has a maximum storage capacity of 3,431 acre-feet, and collects water from a drainage area of 13 square miles. Completed in 1999, the structure is 27 years old.
